Komondor, welcome to the website of the hungarian sheepdog,
read all about the pregnancy of our female komondor!
12 september 2007 As you
could read on the first (home) page of the site Fontos doesn't get
puppies this time, unfortunetely she stayed empty. But at the end of
2007 Fontos will get her next period, so that will be our last attempt
to try if Fontos and Jambor will mate, and than get puppies. It means we
have to wait for another months :-(
This diary will stay on the
website, so we can give you more news at the end of november, or
beginning december, so we'll be back!
We wanted to have komondor puppies for a long time
now. At first it took a long time to find a male komondor that fits with our
female komondor. All the komondors in Holland are having the same bloodlines so
we had to take a look in a foreign country. So we decided to look in
Hungary. We went there three times, but it didn't work at all. To go to
Hungary takes a long time, mostly it took about 14 hours to get there.
In the meantime the period of Fontos was long gone once we got there.
Therefor we decided to buy a male dog. That way we where able to take a
good look at the bloodlines. Fortunately we found Jambor and together
with friends of ours, Folkert vd Woude and Peter Beek, who also got the
problem to find a good male for there female komondor, we bought Jambor
who lives at our place. But when we bougt him two years ago he wasn't
adult enough to mate. At least now he mated with Fontos, so you'll
understand that we're very happy about it. In all that time I tried to
look up a lot about pregnant dogs but could not find a good site in
which everything was told that I wanted to know. So therefor we decided
to share the pregnancy of Fontos with all the people who want to know
what it's like when their dog is having puppies. If you are having any

1st of August 2007, we
haven't been for the x-ray of Fontos yet, we have to work all week and
the vet was to busy to make an appointment for today, it could only be
on this friday. So, we decided, while we're having vacation next week to
go next friday. That means it will take another week before we will know
for sure. In the meantime, Fontos is very kind, she still wants to be
hughed a lot and sleeps a lot.
We also got the results from the
new x-ray of Jambor, last year we did an x-ray but appearently it was to
soon, the vet told us, that we could take another test this year. While
Jambor was still in a growing period by than. We where hoping for a
better result but where very surprised that Jambor has A hips, that
means no HD at all!!!!! You'll understand that we're very happy with
that result, it's great.
so, all we have got to do is wait
5 more weeks, and we're hoping that things will turn out just fine and
Fontos and Jambor (both A hips!!!) will have very healthy puppies!

24 Juli 2007, things with Fontos are just fine,
not many changes, she wants to be hughed all the time, and she sleeps a
lot. Her nipples are very pink and it seems like they're growing every
day! So, it looks good. Next wednesday we will go to the vet for the
x-ray, we can hardly wait! She's not growing spectaculary but it's a
little soon for that. I made a few pictures tonight, enjoy!

16 Juli 2007, for the past weekend the weather was great. For
Fontos and
Jambor however the temperatures where to high. They looked for a cool
spot under the table in the kitchen and kept on sleeping all day. In the
evening when it was cooling down they loved to get into the garden.
Jambor was all happy and wanted to play with Fontos, but she only walked
a little in the garden and looked for a cool spot outside and kept on
sleeping again. She only wants to play for a short time and than she
goes on sleeping again. Fontos always was a very nice female dog, but
now she's nicer than ever. She only wants to be hughed, when we try to
stop giving her attention, she comes back time after time. On the
internet we looked up a lot of information about the behaviour of a
pregnant dog, and it seems that after about 14 days her nipples should
turn out to be a bit more pink than usual, and we where surprised to see
that they really are! They've also grown a lot! So, we're hoping for the
best, but to be completely sure we have got to wait for 14 days for the
x-ray at the veterinairy clinic. As soon as we know, we will write it
down here ofcourse.
9 juli 2007, It's a week later now, there are not many changes in
Fontos her behavior. She sleeps a lot, but that has been always one of
her favorite things to do, so I don't think it has got anything to do
with her being or not being pregnant. As usual Fontos loves to be
hugged, so that hasn't changed also. As far as Jambor is concerned, it
looks like he wants some more attention, when someone comes to the
house, it seems like he's a bit agressive. Maybe he wants to protect
Fontos? But when someone finally is in the house he is as kind as usual,
but whil we always have a lot of kids playing here, we pay more
attention to him than we did before. Fontos and Jambor are still playing
as they used to, only Fontos doesn't go out anymore as much as she used
to. When we walk her to the garden, she runs back to the house and goes
to sleep once she's in the kitchen again. Well, more next week....
2nd Of July 2007, finally the time is right. After al long
time waiting Fontos finally got her period, now the only thing
that has to happen is for Fontos and Jambor to mate. Maybe
Jambor was still to young to mate, we will never know, but this
time things worked out just fine. At first we thought maybe he
wasn't able to mate, but it seemed he had to become the 'man' in
the house at first. As all the times before Jambor was very much
in love, he played with Fontos, and never let her out of his
sight. But every now and than Fontos became tired of it and gave
no reaction at all, sometimes allthough she wanted to play to.
In the first weekend of July we heared a lot of noise at night
but we thought they would be playing, after all they are dogs
who are watching the area and they are sleeping a lot during the
day and are mostly awake at night. But than on monday we heared
some noise in the kitchen and there was Jambor mating Fontos. We
had to do nothing, they took care of everything thereselves. And
that after all the time we thought maybe we had to help, because
one of them would panic! But ofcourse they are dogs who stand
very close to nature so we did not have to do anything. All we
have to do is wait now. In the first week of august we will go
to the vet for a scan to see if and how many puppies there are!
